The WIN system

The WIN System is a group of repeaters which
are linked together throughout California, and other various
repeaters in the western United States. This allows long range
communication through the use of repeaters.
The WIN
System is a series of 71 linked, or Intertied repeaters, most are 440,
or UHF repeaters, but they have some 2-meter and 220 repeaters as well,
that cover a great deal of California, 16 States, and four Countries
around the world.
We disapprove of this repeater system for various reasons.
First and foremost, is the ridiculous fact that there are
WIN system
repeaters in the same area broadcasting the very same signal. In the Los
Angeles area, you can transmit on one 440 frequency, and be copied
by amateurs listening on at least 5 other repeaters in the same
area. This essentially means that 4 frequency pairs are being
taken up by the
WIN system, thus eliminating the possibility of
other amateurs taking part in owning their very own repeater! This goes
against the amateur radio philosophy of "Good Will."
Second, is the authoritarian nature or culture on the
WIN system.
If you do not talk about what a certain person wants to hear at that
particular time, you get spanked and sent to the penalty box. This
certain person also makes sure that he interjects his comments into
almost every conversation on this system.
We realize, from previous experience, a certain person will be
really upset with the fact that we are posting this on
OUR website, which he does not control.
Most likely, he'll threaten us with legal action because we are
expressing our right to free speech. I learned somewhere this was
allowed......I think it is called the First Amendment of the
Constitution of the United States of America!!
